NJ Beast is around 5000ft of climbing, runnable but technical terrains. I would focus on trail run and hill run. For strength, I would focus on pull and grip. Rock climbing is helpful. Basic strength training if you have time. CrossFit is fun but not very helpful for OCR. Spartan obstacles are not very difficult, it’s more like a trail run

I believe Spartan tries to walk a line with how many people DNF because if it's too hard people disengage and give up, so you lose future Spartans. The sweet spot is that it's so hard, but you still finish and tell all your friends how awesome it was. Owl's head that year was so hard, I thought there is no way Killington was harder.
