Edit in response to your edit: In the american tongue it is pronounced Zee which sounds like Cee as C and Z both letters are pronounced with the same shape of the mouth, only one is pronounced with more of an emphasis on the upper part of the mouth and the other is more emphasized on the lower part of the mouth.
